On Sunday 28 June the Spaceguard Centre held an open day where all comers were treated to a glimpse at what the Centre does, why it does it and how. Additionally, Project Drax, the project to install a 24″ Schmidt Camera at the Centre featured, and members of the public were able to see progress on the new dome, and to see the new Andor iKon CCD camera that will be installed in the instrument.
Members of the Marches Astronomy Group did sterling service running the open day, which attracted far more visitors than had been expected.
The event launched the glaobal Asteroid Day that happens on the 107th anniversary of the famous Tunguska airburst in 1908.
