No Need to Duck (This Time)!

On 27 June, at about 13.26 UT, a small asteroid, 2011 MD, will sail past the Earth only about 11,000 miles (0.000122776890598022 AU) away .

It’s only 8-18m across, so it won’t be visible to the naked eye, and even if it did hit the Earth (which it won’t) it would burn up in the atmosphere long before it hits the ground.

Not a problem this time, but a timely reminder that near Earth space is full of undiscovered objects that could cause the ultimate natural disaster.
